“Annie Leibovitz: Pilgrimage” Exhibition to Open at the Georgia O?Keeffe Museum, February 2013

Thursday, November 15th, 2012

Santa Fe, NM (PRWEB) November 13, 2012

The Georgia O?Keeffe Museum announces its first exhibition of 2013, entitled Annie Leibovitz: Pilgrimage which will open February 15, 2013. The exhibition opening will be preceded by a talk that Leibovitz will present about her work on February 12, 2013 at 6:00 pm MST at the Lensic Performing Arts Center.

The show charts a new direction for one of America?s best-known living photographers. Unlike her staged and carefully lit portraits made on assignment for magazines and advertising clients, the photographs in this exhibition were taken simply because Leibovitz was moved by the subject.

The pictures, while not containing people, are in a certain sense portraits of subjects that have shaped Leibovitz?s distinctly American view of her cultural inheritance. Visiting the homes of iconic figures, including O?Keeffe, Eleanor Roosevelt, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Pete Seeger and Elvis Presley, as well as places such as Niagara Falls, Walden Pond, Old Faithful and the Yosemite Valley, she let her instincts and intuitions guide her to related subjects?hence the title ?Pilgrimage.? The images speak in a commonplace language to the photographer?s curiosity about the world she inherited, spanning landscapes both dramatic and quiet, interiors of living rooms and bedrooms, and objects that are talismans of past lives.

The exhibition, which includes about 70 photographs taken between April 2009 and May 2011, is making a national tour to 8 museums (a full list and dates can be found here), which started in January 2012 at the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

?Annie Leibovitz?s Pilgrimage is much like Georgia O?Keeffe?s work in that it captures a place in time with such evocative power and emotion that you cannot help but feel the connection, the deep sense of place,? said Rob Kret, director of the Georgia O?Keeffe Museum. ?We are honored to have her work here and feel that it truly commemorates and complements the ongoing ?Georgia O?Keeffe and the Faraway: Nature and Image? exhibition with paintings and photographs of O?Keeffe?s most beloved and inspiring locations in the Southwest.?

?From the beginning, when I was watching my children stand mesmerized over Niagara Falls, this project was an exercise in renewal,? said Leibovitz. ?It taught me to see again.?

Pilgrimage is an evocative and deeply personal statement by a photographer whose career now spans more than 40 years, encompassing a broad range of subject matter, history and stylistic influences. Together the pictures show Leibovitz at the height of her powers, unfettered by the demands of her career and pondering how photographs, including her own, shape a narrative of history that informs the present.

THE TALK: Leibovitz will discuss her work Friday February 12, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at the Lensic Performing Arts Center in downtown Santa Fe. Tickets will be available from at http://www.lensic.org or 505-988-1234.

THE BOOK: The accompanying book, published by Random House, includes an introduction by noted historian Doris Kearns Goodwin. Pilgrimage is available for purchase ($ 50) at bookstores nationwide and the museum?s store.

Annie Leibovitz: Pilgrimage was organized by the Smithsonian American Art Museum. The Bernie Stadiem Endowment Fund provided support for the exhibition. The C.F. Foundation in Atlanta supports the museum’s traveling exhibition program, Treasures to Go.

Potomac Seniors Village: New Referral Programs for Assisted Living Facilities in Maryland

Tuesday, November 13th, 2012

Potomac, Maryland (PRWEB) November 08, 2012

Ever heard that saying, ?If I had a nickel??? What if one had a nickel for every time one held the door open for a senior? What about helping a senior put groceries in the car? Potomac Seniors Village wants to help individuals get those nickels with the new ?Refer-A-Friend? program. In this program, for every resident that is referred and placed in one of Potomac Seniors Village?s premier assisted living facilities in Maryland, a referral incentive is given.

The program originally began when Potomac Seniors Village wanted to establish relationships with surrounding organizations. This assisted living facility in Maryland is centrally nestled among many health care facilities. Instead of working on a competitive basis, Potomac Seniors Village works to establish a good rapport with the health care facilities so that they can collaboratively help seniors at any level of care. The ?Refer-A-Friend? program is a great option because it brings the community together in providing support for seniors.

Many organizations and affiliations can take advantage of this program. Hospitals, for example, discharge seniors every day. Discharge planners work with seniors to find a place when home is not an option anymore. Potomac Seniors Village can work with hospitals to place seniors in its assisted living facility in Maryland.

Potomac Seniors Village also works closely with many hospice agencies, providing immediate care on a short-term notice. This makes the assisted living community unique because not all facilities provide hospice care. In addition, families who have seniors living at home have the option of applying their loved ones for assisted living or hospice care.

In addition, other assisted living facilities in Maryland can take advantage of this program as well. The demand for senior care can be so high that many seniors are put on waiting lists, not knowing when it they can move into the assisted living facility. Potomac Seniors Village works with assisted living facilities in Maryland who have waiting lists by placing seniors immediately in one of its homes.

Who else is this program offered to? Anyone who wants to participate! Mom?s friend needs reminders and help administering medication? A co-worker?s father is immobile and needs help with activities of daily living? Take advantage of the new ?Refer-A-Friend? program with Potomac Seniors Village!

The greatest advantage of this program is that seniors receive the help that they deserve. Potomac Seniors Village understands that it is hard for families to accept that a loved one needs to move into an assisted living. Concerns such as cost, care and comfort arise. Thus, knowledge of how an assisted living facility in Maryland operates is the key to alleviating all the concerns that families have. Potomac Seniors Village wants to spread this knowledge among the community so that families and friends can seek out those that need these services most. The ?Refer-A-Friend? program is just a little incentive to have families and friends spread this knowledge among the community.

To participate in the new ?Refer-A-Friend? program, first take a tour of Potomac Seniors Village. Explore the facility and learn about the different services provided. Think of any friends who are in need of assistance in daily living. Refer that friend to Potomac Seniors Village and if that senior moves into the facility, the referral incentive goes into effect.

The ?Refer-A-Friend? program is a great way to have friends and the community involved in helping seniors find an assisted living facility in Maryland. So why not get that nickel from Potomac Seniors Village? By working together, seniors can find a home which is the best fit.
