New York, NY (PRWEB) May 16, 2012
Attorney Deborah Truhowsky, Senior Counsel for the Law Firm of D. F. Truhowsky, will speak at an Ombudsman In-Service training program for Ombudsman volunteers in New York City on Wednesday May 16, 2012. Ms. Truhowsky will dispel some common misconceptions regarding nursing home related injuries. She will also discuss ways to prevent nursing home neglect and abuse, and will speak about the rights that residents and their families have if neglect or abuse occurs.
“The Ombudsman Program is a vital resource featuring professionals and trained volunteers who enhance the lives of residents of New York City’s nursing homes, adult homes and assisted living facilities,” explained Ms. Truhowsky. “They talk with residents, discuss their needs, and help to resolve the challenging situations they face. It is important for these individuals to be able to recognize the signs of injuries, neglect, and abuse in residents as they may be the only visitors some of these people receive. The Ombudsman program is the last line of oversight for the well-being and safety of the elderly and other highly vulnerable citizens residing in nursing homes and assisted living facilities,” Ms. Truhowsky stated.
The Ombudsman program is funded through the New York State Office for the Aging and the New York City Department for the Aging. To learn more about the program, visit the program’s website at http://www.nyfsc.org/services/ombuds.html or call 212-962-7559.
