San Diego, Ca (PRWEB) November 19, 2011

Firstat Nursing Services, a premier home nursing and home health agency in San Diego, CA is supporting American Diabetes Month by helping families understand the different types of assistance available to them when looking for help in caring for seniors with diabetes.

Diabetes is a serious disease. If it isn?t managed, it can damage many parts of the body, leading to heart attacks, strokes, amputation, blindness, kidney failure and nerve damage. But there is good news; diabetes complications can be prevented or delayed by properly managing blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Eating healthy, being physically active and quitting smoking can also help lower the risk of diabetes complications.

?People can often control their condition with regular exercise and a good diet. Unfortunately, some diabetics are physically unable to endure rigorous activity and maintain a steady weight,? said Linnea Goodrich, president of Firstat Nursing Services.

Due to the changes in kidney and liver functions as we age, seniors seem to be more susceptible to low blood sugars. Common causes of low blood sugar for seniors include not eating enough during meals after taking insulin, waiting to eat meals or skipping meals altogether.

At Firstat Nursing Services, we are trained to care for seniors with diabetes. To help families understand their in home nursing care options, Goodrich outlined the three levels of care.

C.N.A. is a Certified Nursing Assistant who has successfully completed a State Certified Nursing Assistant program. They are licensed to perform vital sign monitoring, medication reminders, ambulating, personal hygiene, feeding, dressing, and physical transfer; in addition to other activities of daily living.

L.V.N. is a Licensed Vocational Nurse with a current valid state license. They have the technical knowledge to perform nursing duties and patient care. They provide prescribed medical treatments such as injections, wound care, catheter care, set up and administer medication in addition to personal care.

Home Nursing Rancho Santa Fe, Home Health Rancho Santa Fe ? Firstat Publishes Homecare Guide to Stress Importance of Hiring State Licensed Nurses for Medical In-Home Care

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

Rancho Santa Fe, CA (PRWEB) July 28, 2011

Firstat Nursing Services, a 14 year old home nursing agency and home health provider in San Diego, CA recently released a home care guide ? ?Critical Questions You Must Ask Before You Hire a Home Care Provider,? to help families understand the importance of hiring State Licensed Nurses for Medical In-Home Care.

According to Linnea Goodrich, the company?s president, ?Selecting the right company and then the best caregiver to take care of a loved one is a big decision.? We created this guide to help San Diego families understand what to look for and the options that are available to them.?

According to a report prepared by John Hill from the California Senate Office of Oversight and Outcomes, the home care industry is growing fast, driven by the desire of many aging Californians to remain in their own homes rather than moving into assisted living or other types of long-term care facilities.

Businesses and individuals have stepped forward to meet this need, offering help with activities of daily living short of medical care. Many elderly or disabled clients and their families seek to hire caregivers directly, sidestepping agencies in favor of lower rates. Caregivers try to connect with those potential employers by placing ads in newspapers, Internet services such as Craigslist, or magazines targeting seniors. The report confirms that the current landscape is creating risk for consumers that could be alleviated by legislation.

?When I started Firstat Nursing Services over 14 years ago, I was determined to provide home nursing caregivers that had the experience and credentials to provide a higher level of care for patients in the home or on-site at assisted living facilities,? said Linnea Goodrich, owner of Firstat Nursing Services. ?Because of that commitment, our CNA, LVN and RN staff members are not only certified but experienced, bonded and trained. In addition, they are employees of Firstat,? continued Goodrich.

To help families understand their in home nursing care options, Goodrich outlined the three levels of care described in the guide.
