According to a report prepared by John Hill from the California Senate Office of Oversight and Outcomes, the home care industry is growing fast, driven by the desire of many aging Californians to remain in their own homes rather than moving into assisted living or other types of long-term care facilities.

Many elderly or disabled clients and their families seek to hire caregivers directly, sidestepping agencies in favor of lower rates. The report confirms that the current landscape is creating risk for consumers that could be alleviated by legislation.

L.V.N. is a Licensed Vocational Nurse with a current valid state license. They have the technical knowledge to perform nursing duties and patient care. They provide prescribed medical treatments such as injections, wound care, catheter care, set up and administer medication in addition to personal care.
R.N. is a Registered Nurse with a current valid state license. They perform frequent patient evaluations which include monitoring, performing procedures, administering IV medications, assessments and implementing the nursing care plan provided by the physician

The Nursing Home Complaint Center says, “We are calling March,National Nursing Home Abuse, and Neglect Awareness Month, for all US nursing home patients, and their loved ones. The Nursing Home Complaint Center is also urging nursing home staff members to step forward if they have proof of intentional short staffing, patient neglect, concealing what really happened to someone’s mom, or dad, in the instance of a severe infection, a broken bone, or even a wrongful death. The group says, “many nursing home employees see it, but are too afraid to say something about it. Please call us, if you know of intentional nursing home abuse, neglect, or wrongful death.” They say, “we also want to hear from nursing home employees who have significant proof of Medicare, or Medicaid fraud.
