Ohio?s new texting while driving ban makes texting and use of other portable electronic devices a primary offense for drivers under the age of 18. However, the new law provides for only secondary enforcement for adult violators, meaning police will need another reason, such as speeding, to stop and cite anyone over the 18 for texting while driving. While Governor Kasich and Ohio lawmakers deserve praise for allowing the texting ban to become law, they still have not gone far enough to ensure that more Ohio motorists will not become victims of distracted driving.
