NCH Adds another BC/BS Plan that Helps Seniors

Wednesday, January 9th, 2013

Arlington Heights, IL (PRWEB) December 21, 2012

Effective January 1, 2013, Northwest Community Healthcare (NCH) will expand the northwest suburban system?s Blue Cross/Blue Shield (BC/BS) coverage to include ?Medicare Select Plan F. ? ( NCH also accepts the new BC/BS Medicare Advantage plan.)

In the Medicare Select plan, seniors pay 15-20% less in premiums than in the standard BC/BS Medicare supplemental insurance plan. They receive their healthcare services from providers in a defined network of hospitals within a geographic area. Hospitals in the Medicare Select network waive the deductible on inpatient admissions. BC/BS also explains on their website (http://www.bcbsil.com): ?Medicare Select is not an HMO. With Medicare Select, you are fully covered for emergency care at any hospital, and you can choose your own doctors and specialists.?

This plan not only benefits seniors for inpatient hospital care, but also provides them access to NCH physicians and other healthcare service providers in the NCH System, such as lab, home health, rehabilitation services, and diagnostic imaging.

According to Stephen Scogna, Chief Operating Officer at NCH, ?We are very pleased to be able to enhance and further strengthen our support of seniors in our community by offering this additional Medicare Select plan option. This plan makes coverage affordable to many seniors who may otherwise not be able to afford supplemental insurance.?

NCH offers many other preventive care and wellness programs for seniors. NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders) acknowledged NCH?s alignment with the needs of the community?s older adult population by recently awarding the hospital their ?Senior Friendly? designation.

Seniors interested in more information on NCH?s Medicare Select Plan F option should call the toll free number for Blue Cross/Blue Shield: 800.646.3000

Acadian Monitoring Services Adds MobileHelp Device to Product Line

Saturday, July 21st, 2012

(PRWEB) July 19, 2012

Acadian Monitoring Services, a division of Acadian companies and a provider of medical, fire and security monitoring for homes, businesses, and individuals, has added a new and innovative medical alert system to its product line.

The MobileHelp device is a portable, cellular-based, two-way voice mobile unit with GPS location services. When activated, the MobileHelp unit detects and reports the user?s location using GPS satellites. The dispatcher is then able to communicate with the subscriber over an AT&T cellular network and dispatch the appropriate authorities based on the subscriber?s actual location.

The MobileHelp system also includes a permission-based interactive online tool which enables caregivers or the subscriber?s loved ones to view the location of the subscriber in real-time, using Google Maps technology. Email notifications with event location maps can be sent to pre-determined responders within seconds after the button has been pushed.

?With the baby boomer generation aging and retiring, yet still being mobile and active, the traditional landline phone-based medical alert system is no longer meeting their needs,? says Blane Comeaux, vice president of AMS. ?This device is perfect for the ?on the go? senior who can still travel, drive a car and live their day-to-day lives, while still having the extra peace of mind a medical alert system affords them and their families.?

AMS operates three monitoring centers staffed by highly trained professionals that respond to medical and security alerts for thousands of subscribers nationwide. AMS has expanded over the last twenty years to include personal emergency response systems, mobile monitoring, advanced video security systems, access control, security monitoring, and telehealth monitoring.

Since 1971, Acadian has been committed to providing the highest level of emergency medical care and transportation possible. In the past decade, the company has expanded to include a diverse suite of services in health, safety, and transportation. Acadian?s six divisions are Acadian Ambulance Service, Acadian Monitoring Services, Air Med, Executive Aircraft Charter Service, National EMS Academy and Safety Management Systems.

Clayton Sleep Institute Adds AASM Home Testing Accreditation

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

St. Louis, Missouri (PRWEB) January 31, 2012

Clayton Sleep Institute (CSI) is now accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) to provide Out-of-Center Sleep Testing in addition to CSI?s AASM-accredited tests in their sleep clinics. Out-of-Center Testing is commonly referred to as home testing. The AASM accreditation of Out-of-Center Sleep Testing enables sleep professionals to offer broader options to patients while demonstrating a commitment to high quality diagnostic services. This new accreditation makes CSI one of the only AASM-dual-certified sleep labs in the region and among the few in the country.

?We?re very proud that Clayton Sleep has AASM accreditation for our home testing program,? said Dr. Joseph Ojile, M.D., founder and CEO of Clayton Sleep Institute. ?Home testing is a very important tool for CSI in providing personalized care for our patients. There are patient symptoms and sometimes circumstances that make home testing the best choice for the optimum test for certain sleep disorders. When appropriate, we use home testing to diagnose patients with results that they collect in the comfort of their home.?

CSI provides home testing through both Type II and Type III monitoring devices. A home sleep test with a Type III portable monitor is unattended ? that is, performed without the immediate oversight of a sleep technologist ? and has a minimum of four monitoring channels. This type of sleep test is generally used for people with a significant history of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). In this type of test, the patient goes home with the device which records the results which are downloaded by the CSI sleep professional the next day.

The other home sleep test that CSI offers is with a Type II portable monitor, also unattended, with a minimum of seven channels. This type of test involves more elaborate sleep equipment and studies parameters such as EEG, EOG and EMG recordings in addition to the respiratory effort and oxygen saturation channels recorded in a Type III device. Type II home tests provide more detailed information that better helps CSI professionals diagnose a broader range of sleep disorders.
